2015 Dodge Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker
2015 Dodge Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker
The 2015 Challenger and 2015 Charger were the main attraction at Dodge ’s New York Auto Show booth, with both vehicles being showcased in brand-new clothes. Unlike the Charger, which received a much more extensive facelift, the updated Challenger arrived with milder body enhancements, but it somehow managed to look more attractive than the former.
I’m tempted to believe this is because the Charger borrowed too many details from the Dart , but I’m also willing to admit that I’m a sucker for the 1971 Challenger, the exact model Dodge looked upon for the 2015 facelift.
Anyway, besides the 1971-inspired fascias and a more modern interior, the revised Challenger also gained a brand-new model, the 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker. As the name suggests, the new trim blends features from both the Scat Pack and the Shaker bundles, while making use of the large 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 mill and the Super Track Pak.
In short, it’s a muscle car that will sit at the top of the non-SRT Challenger lineup next year, being aimed at the Mopar gearheads that are in the hunt for classic looks in a 21st century coupe .

Exterior
The Shaker Package adds the iconic Shaker hood and scoop, a Shaker badge underhood and Satin Black stripes that begin on the hood and go all the way to the trunk..
Thanks to its new, 1971 Challenger-inspired design features, the facelifted pony is more aggressive than the 2014 model, no matter the trim. However, with the 329 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker version, Dodge takes things even further with a number of details that will stir the heart of any Mopar enthusiast.
The range-topping model actually benefits from both the Shaker and the Scat Pack packages. The Shaker Package adds the iconic Shaker hood and scoop, a Shaker badge underhood and Satin Black stripes that begin on the hood and go all the way to the trunk. The muscle car also rides on 20-inch, polished-aluminum wheels that feature black accents and a satin finish.

The Scat Pack, on the other hand, contributes by adding a 392 Shaker badge on the Shaker scoop and a unique Bumble Bee badge on the fenders that reminds us of the Super Bee models Dodge offered between 1968 and 1971. The 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker will become available to order in any of the colors in the Challenger palette, including the brand new, high-impact B5 Blue and Sublime Green.

Drivetrain
The 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker is motivated by Dodge’s largest engine yet - the 6.4-liter V-8.
The 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker comes with Dodge’s largest engine yet - the 6.4-liter V-8. Official performance figure aren’t available right now, but the manufacturer says the "projected" output sits at 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. That’s an improvement of 15 horsepower and 5 pound-feet over the outgoing SRT model.
The power bump will enable the Scat Pack Shaker to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in the "mid 4-second" range, which should mean 4.6 seconds. Quarter- mile times are expected to be in the low 12-second area. Like the rest of the Challenger lineup, this model will also go on sale with either a six-speed manual gearbox or the new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
Brembo brake upgrade
Moreover, all 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker muscle cars will include the Super Track Pak as standard. The bundle adds upgraded suspension, brakes and steering, as well as a three-mode electronic stability control with full off more and Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tires.

Competition
Chevrolet Camaro SS
The Challenger in question doesn’t have a matching competitor from Chevy, falling somewhere between the Camaro 2SS and the ZL1 . The latter comes with a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 with 426 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque and starts from $36,150, including a $2,000 cash back offer, before any options.
Having less power under the hood, the Camaro SS is also slower from 0 to 60 miles per hour, taking nearly five seconds to accelerate to the said mark. Two transmissions are available on the Camaro , the standard six-speed manual and the optional six-speed automatic. The Challenger seems more attractive with its new eight-speed auto, but we’ll have to wait and see the impact the ZF unit will have on consumption.
The current Camaro received a facelift for the 2014 model year, which means it will continue to attract customers and sell better than its Dodge rival.
Ford Mustang GT
With a little more than 420 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque (Ford has yet to reveal final figures) at its disposal, the 2015 Mustang GT is nearly on par with the Camaro and, just like the GM-built pony, falls short of the Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker by about 60 horses. However, the brand new GT is expected to perform better that the Boss 302. Fitted with the Performance Pack, the ’Stang should deliver a more enthralling experience on the track and more stability on the road.
Unlike the Challenger, the redesigned Mustang
comes with an independent rear suspension, while also benefiting from a host of new convenience features and technologies. Pricing is still a mystery, but a well-equipped 2015 Mustang GT should retail for less than $40,000.

The sixth-generation pony is set to receive more powerful version next year, which will be suited to compete against the range-topping 2015 Challenger, but performance numbers and the moniker it will be offered in are still unknown. Until then, the most exotic 2015 Mustang on offer is the GT-based 50 Year Limited Edition .
Conclusion
The modern Challenger has plenty of heritage to lay on. Dodge is aware of that and made good use of its iconic Scat Pack and Shaker features by pairing them into a refreshed muscle car. Until the new SRT version with the supercharged Hellcat V-8 engine shows up, the 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker remains the most appealing version of the Challenger lineup.
